Reflecting on 2020

2020 has been a year full of challenges and changes.

Every sector has been affected by the pandemic, including the recruitment industry. Whilst demand for employees in retail and hospitality roles has seen a drop, there has been a surge in opportunities across our health and social care division. We’ve also seen businesses prioritising senior roles as they seek specialist skills to help them navigate the uncertainty of the future.

We’ve also seen significant changes to the way in which we work. When the initial lockdown was enforced back in March, employees working exclusively from home rose from 5.7% in Jan/Feb, to over 43% in April.[1]

Homeworking was on a gradual, but slow, upward trajectory even before the lockdown but the events of this year have forced businesses to adapt and quickly. They’ve shown that remote working is possible, even in large scale organisations with minimal impact on productivity.

This has been the case for us at the Paterson Group. On the advice of the Government, we temporarily closed our branches across Milton Keynes, Bicester, Abingdon and Aylesbury and worked together, albeit remotely to ensure minimal disruption of our services to clients or candidates. Of course, there were challenges in the early days, but we sought out new ways to communicate with each other, new ways to motivate each other and new ways to get things done to the best of our ability.

The team have shown resilience throughout. There were times when our clients and candidates understandably wanted guidance and advice, often answers that weren’t there and the Government restrictions meant we had to interact differently.

We’ve all had to be patient and keep going with a smile, but that’s brought us all closer together.

This year we also saw a large increase in enquiries and new packages for our home care division, led by our Registered Manager who has over 20 years’ experience in Health and Social Care.

Our team are dedicated to providing a sensitive and caring service when organising care at home for people with varying needs. We’re really pleased with the success of the division so far and are looking to continue to build on this in the New Year.

We’d like to that all our clients and candidates for their ongoing support this year and we look to the new year with a positive approach. We are confident that no matter what 2021 has in store we will continue to support you, whether you are looking for top talent or a new opportunity.

Merry Christmas from all of us at The Paterson Group.
